Ready, Set, Go!

To kick off my first blog post:

Goals:

Re-read my first RP book and further annotate and analyze the text.  Because I read this first book during the summer, I did not annotate as much as I wish did, and re-reading it will help me better connect the two books.

Another goal is to find the perfect connection that will give me a lot to write about in my paper.  I already have ideas, but taking another look may give me inspiration.

Activities:

I completed my question set this week, along with beginning my first book for the second time.

Problems:

Ernest Hemingway's novels can be a bit of a slow read at first.  If I start reading, I have to force myself to keep going and stay interested and involved in the story.  If not, it becomes too boring to handle.  I deal with this by reading and analyzing as much as I can for as long as I can handle, then setting the book down and reading in a few hours, or the next day.  So far, this has been working out well for me.

Reflection:

Because much of Hemingway's work was written about the "lost generation", the story can drag and be repetitive and uninteresting a lot of the time.  Although I understand that Hemingway meant to portray it as such, it is frustrating as a reader when I feel pressured for time while reading something that is somewhat of a broken record.

However, I have been recently feeling more confident about my writing after getting feedback on the latest paper.  I now know what needs focus in my writing skills, which makes me feel somewhat relieved.

  1. Good start, Ellen. A few things to consider for next entries. First, you need more specificity regarding your goals. (Also, at this point, goals really should be focused on research not on general argument ideas). What work do you plan on accomplishing each class period and each night. Second, you will want a little more in your activities section. You spent a day in the library -- what did you accomplish during that visit? 13/15
